Summary
- The Honda Elysion is a China-exclusive luxury minivan with unique features and a 2.0L hybrid option.
- The Odyssey has an extensive list of standard equipment, advanced safety features.
- A fully optioned Odyssey Elite can cost $61,368, but purchasing every add-on isn’t practical for most buyers.
Offered alongside the seemingly depreciation-proof Honda Pilot SUV, the Honda Odyssey is the only other vehicle from this Japanese automaker available with up to eight seats. Rather than having two similar SUVs, the Odyssey is a plush minivan made for families. However, this reliable japan-made car comes at a price — especially when you tick every option box possible.

Why would you need every option possible? Well, Honda is known as a value-based brand in the US, with Acura acting as its luxury branch, but this isn’t the case globally. There’s a luxury variant of the Odyssey available exclusively in China, called the Honda Elysion. Once you see it, you’ll wish your minivan was this cool. Ticking some add-ons will get you similar features, but at what cost?
In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from Honda and other authoritative sources, including Dongfeng Motor Group.
The Honda that’s more luxurious than a Toyota (and it’s not an Acura)
Honda are known for making value-based cars, but they certainly know how to make a luxury vehicle to rival premium brands.
What is the Honda Elysion?
If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen or heard of the Honda Elysion, it’s probably because it’s only available in China. Originally, the Elysion was released for the Japanese domestic market in 2004 to rival Toyota’s Alphard (another JDM vehicle), before branching out to China in 2012. Due to a lack of interest, the Elysion is no longer offered in Japan. In fact, it’s only available in China as a special collaboration with Dongfeng Motor Group.
What’s the difference between the Honda Odyssey and Elysion?
Since the Honda Elysion is based on the Honda Odyssey, there are obvious overlaps, like the size and sliding doors. For all their similarities, there are major differences. From the outset, the Elysion has bigger, flashy alloys and a huge front grille compared to the subdued styling of the Odyssey.
Inside is where the two are set apart, with the Elysion covering almost every visible panel is sumptuous leather. Captain chairs in the Elysion are very mature and create space between passengers, compared to the family-friendly openness of the Odyssey. On top of that, the Elysion gets an efficient 2.0-liter hybrid option that isn’t available on the Odyssey. It’s clear the Elysion is designed for luxury travel, while the Odyssey is a sensible MPV.

How much is a 2025 Honda Odyssey?
Honda
Prices for a 2025 Honda Odyssey start from $42,220 on a base model. Climbing the trim levels takes the starting MSRP to $51,180 for a range-topping Honda Odyssey Elite. It doesn’t stop there, though. Despite an array of standard features, the Elite trim still has a lot of checkboxes for available options. Regardless of grade, every Odyssey wields a 3.5-liter V6 engine to shift the heavy people carrier when all seats are filled.

2025 Honda Odyssey extensive standard equipment
You get a lot for your money with the 2025 Honda Odyssey. Even the entry-level model gets keyless entry and start, powered sliding rear doors, a reversing camera with guidelines, and a powered moonroof. Advanced driver assistance systems are also standard via Honda Sensing, which includes:
- collision-mitigation braking with pedestrian detection
- lane keep assist and departure warning
- adaptive cruise control, blind spot information
- automatic high-beam assist
- front and rear parking sensors on Touring and Elite trims
A look at the Honda Odyssey Elite Interior
Admittedly, the Odyssey’s interior has nothing on the Elysion, but it’s still impressive. Again, the base models feel premium with a full leather interior and heated front seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered moonroof and a 9-inch touchscreen display. However, the Elite trim packs a heated steering wheel and front seat ventilation, a premium audio system, Honda Sat Nav with voice recognition, CabinWatch rear seat monitor, and built-in sunshades in rows two and three.
Bearing in mind this eight-seat minivan is made for families, kids will love the advanced rear entertainment system in the Elite. They can watch shows on a high-resolution 12.8-inch screen with an HDMI interface. Don’t fret, adults, as there are headphone jacks to make sure only the kids watching need to listen to the repetitive children’s songs.

Long list of options for the Honda Odyssey Elite
Honda
If you want your Odyssey to feel more like an Elysion, there are available packages and accessories you can add. For a start, there are four paints available at no additional cost, or you can choose a metallic or pearlescent paint for $455. Depending on exterior color, there is a small selection of no-cost interior colors, and 19-inch machine-finished alloy wheels are standard on all Elite models.
There are 43 accessories available.
There are two levels of all-season protection ($516 and $521, respectively), which bring protective gear like high-wall floor mats and splash guards, or a more affordable Protection Package with a smaller combination of the two all-season packs for $351. Then there are 43 accessories available, from seat covers and first aid kits, to roof rails with various attachments for bikes, snowboards, etc. For adventurers, you can also purchase a tent that attaches to the trunk for access to the car.
How much is a Honda Odyssey Elite with every option?
Honda
After adding every available option available to the Honda Odyssey Elite, the total cost comes to $61,368 (excluding destination and handling fees). Realistically, nobody will need every option. For example, you’ll either need a bike rack, kayak rack, surfboard, or snowboard attachments, but not every single attachment that is on offer. Plus, the configuration tool lets you purchase both short and long roof boxes, varying sizes of trailer hitch balls, and other accessories that don’t make sense in combination with other extras.
