Finding the Best Bras for DD+ Sizes is a Struggle—But Wacoal Elevated the Game

I’ll be the first to admit: My work-from-home life means I basically live in sports bras and bralettes. If it’s not light support, wire-free, and free from cup separation or encapsulation, I don’t want it on my body. I’m dramatic like that.

Sure, I own more supportive bras—like my high-impact running bras—but would I ever want to wear one for a full day? Absolutely not. Large-cup-sized ladies, you know exactly what I mean.

The trade-off, though, is that my go-to comfy bras don’t exactly give me the most, uh, polished look for “outside the house” activities. Running errands in an oversized tee? No problem. But for anything requiring real clothes? That’s where things get tricky.

The Painful Reality of Bra Shopping

Every once in a while, I have to bite the bullet and find a real bra—one that actually supports me without making me want to rip it off and set it on fire after 20 minutes.

And if you’ve ever shopped for bras as someone with larger natural breasts (especially as they change with age), you know the struggle:

🔹 The pinching.
🔹 The digging.
🔹 The squeezing in all the wrong places.
🔹 The stiff seams that feel like they’re slicing into your skin with every deep breath.
🔹 The scratchy, unyielding fabric that somehow gets worse as the day goes on.

For women like me, getting lift and support often comes at a very uncomfortable cost.

So, when I found myself in desperate need of a new bra, the universe must have been listening—because a rep from Wacoal reached out to see if I’d be interested in testing and reviewing some of their bras.

Keeping It Real Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Wacoal, and the bras featured were provided for review. Additionally, some of the links in this post are affiliate links, which means that if you purchase through them, we receive a small commission—at no extra cost to you. This helps support our writers and everything we do here at Fit Bottomed Girls. As always, all thoughts, opinions, and unfiltered bra struggles are completely my own.

Who is Wacoal? (And Why Was I Immediately Sold?)

I’d heard of Wacoal before but had never actually tried one of their bras. So, before saying yes, I did a little research.

Turns out, Wacoal has been in the game for over 30 years and is all about helping women find the right bra to make them feel confident. They do this by sourcing premium materials, using cutting-edge tech, and—get this—actually fitting their bras on real women (not just models).

And the size range? A to K cups. Finally, a brand that understands women come in all sizes!

But here’s where they really won me over … their plainly-stated commitment to:

Philanthropy – They actively support the fight against breast cancer.
🌍 Sustainability – They care about quality and environmental impact.
🌈 Diversity & Inclusion – They value kindness, mutual respect, as well as fostering creativity and ingenuity through diversity.

When I saw that, I was all in.

The (Totally Painless) Virtual Bra Consultation

Step one was a free virtual bra consultation with one of Wacoal’s Fit Experts. To be honest, I’d never done a proper bra fitting before—in person or virtually.

Something about it always felt … idk unappealing? Like, what exactly is she gonna do to me in that fitting room? And would someone really be able to help me virtually?

But my Fit Expert was fantastic. I explained my usual bra woes and laid out my seemingly impossible wish list:

“I want a bra that gives me shape and support but feels as comfortable as my unsupportive, poorly-shaped sports bras.”

I half-expected her to laugh at me, but nope—she had me take a few simple measurements, shared her screen, and walked me through multiple tailored options. She was on it.

By the end of the call, I had a list of four non-sports bra contenders (plus one sports bra, because I’m always on the hunt for a good running bra that won’t chafe me into oblivion).

The Real Test: Wearing Each Bra for a Full Day

I wore each bra twice, each time for an entire day (except the sports bra obviously—I just wore that for a few workouts), just to see if the comfort held up over time—or if it started annoying me by lunchtime.

To pass the ultimate test, I had to be able to confidently say “yes” to all of these questions:

Did it stay comfortable all day?
Did it hold up to real-life movement?
Did I actually want to keep wearing it?

And now, for the full breakdown of my faves…

My top pick for comfort and support: Awareness Underwire Bra

What’s to love:

  • Full coverage fabric cups that aren’t scratchy
  • Hidden sling for added support and shaping in DDD to I cup sizes
  • Underwire encased between fabric layers so it’s not digging into your ribs all day
  • Cushioned comfort straps that didn’t leave indentations in my skin after I removed it

The Verdict: I. Love. It. A classic, unlined seamless underwire bra that actually lives up to its billing of “the perfect everyday bra.”

My top pick for support and “prettiness”: Retro Chic Full Figure Underwire Bra

What’s to love:

  • Full coverage cups that you won’t fall out of the first time you lean forward
  • Seamed lace cups that give seriously impressive lift, shaping, and support
  • Peek-a-boo sheer mesh window in top of cups for more glam than a basic t-shirt bra

The Verdict: This vintage-inspired lace underwire bra delivers! It fit me like it was made for me, plus it was very feminine for any immediate confidence boost.

While these two didn’t quite snag the top spots, I already plan to keep both of these bras in my regular rotation because I found them to be far more comfortable and supportive than other DD+ everyday bras I’ve had over the years. They are both winners as well.

What’s to love about the Perfect Primer Bra:

  • Seamless full coverage underwire bra that keep the girl locked in place without rough edges
  • Buttery soft fabric for comfortable all day wear
  • Hidden sling in cups for added support and a great shape
  • Additional layer of fabric in the band for enhanced support in G, H, and I cup sizes

What’s to love about the Inside Job Bra:

Designed to center your bust within your frame, this bra will give you a streamlined look and the confidence that comes with it.

  • Side support bra that helps center the girls within your frame
  • Full coverage seamless cups with a fancy pattern that gives elevated t-shirt bra vibes
  • Hidden sling in cups designed to provide more shaping and support

Quick Note: Personally, I found the cups of the Inside Job Bra to sit just slightly more laterally than Perfect Primer, which seems to be common in side support bras in my experience. So, for me, the front cup seams were spaced just a smidge too far apart for my shape so they pressed into my breast tissue and created a very slight bulge just above that seam. Honestly, though, only I will know. It wasn’t obvious when I wore a t-shirt. But worth pointing out because if you prefer having slightly wider-set cups, you will find the Inside Job Bra to be a perfect fit for you.

Alright, so what about the DD+ Sports Bra?

I am soooooo picky when it comes to running bras—because I have to be. When you’re an ultramarathoner who is also a 32DDD, crappy running bras just will not do. I’ve got scars on my back and chest from running sports bras that have rubbed me raw enough to leave permanent marks from their stiff and jagged seams. On the flip side, I’ve tried my fair share of run bras that don’t give enough support and it’s painful.

Finding the right sports bra for DD+ girlies is a delicate balance between the right amount of strong, structured support and softness and give that you can breathe and not have your skin be torn to shreds when you start sweating in the mid-Atlantic humidity.

Wacoal sent me the Simone Sport Underwire Bra to try which I put through a run and a CrossFit-style workout (barbells, burpees, and box jumps, oh my!) and for both it was fabulous.  Honestly, when it comes to sports bras for DD+, we want the bra to be there but not be something we “notice” or have to fuss over.  That’s how I felt about the Simone Sport Underwire Bra. It was there doing its job and didn’t become a distraction.

I especially appreciated the full coverage cups that didn’t create any spillage that I had to keep tucking back in after each burpee. The bra didn’t shift around either—another unbearable pet peeve of mine. And the slide-and-hook adjustment in the back offers a customized fit without little metal sliders to jab you the whole way through your workout.

  • Underwire sport bra with minimal bounce
  • Full coverage keep you in place while moving around
  • Maximum support for high-impact activities
  • Cushioned outside underwire to prevent chafing
  • Hidden sling in cups for added support in G to I cup sizes
  • Moisture-wicking fabric helps to keep skin dry
  • Mesh back helps to keep skin cool

The verdict: It’s a winner. I’ve already tossed a few old sports bras to make room for this one.

Final Thoughts: Are Wacoal Bras Worth It for DD+ Sizes?

After putting these bras to the test, I can confidently say that Wacoal has elevated the game for DD+ sizes. The virtual fitting experience was easy, the bras were thoughtfully designed, and—most importantly—they actually delivered on comfort and support.

If you’ve struggled to find a bra that actually fits, supports, and doesn’t make you want to rip it off at the first chance—Wacoal might just be the answer. It was for me.
